Legendary East London Grime MC Kano has released his forefronted documentary on the east London badlands that gave birth to grime, bring us knowledge of the genre’s roots.

Titled “Made In The Manor” (which is how old school Londoners would say “hood”) and produced by The Guardian, in it we see Kano return to the Newham streets that birthed his career as a grime MC, ten years on from his debut album. We see him visit his childhood home, his cousin’s barbershop and even catch a glimpse of behind-the-scenes footage of MCs in the studio.

The combination of Kano’s charm and The Guardian‘s mastery of documentary-making makes this one a must-watch.

If you struggle to make sense of some of the lingo, here’s our completely unserious guide to British street slang for guidance.

Ahead of the official album release for Kano’s latest project ,”Made in the Manor,” the famed East London grime MC has released a heartfelt documentary offering his fans a behind the scenes look at where it all began. From 69 Manor Road to supporting The Streets live on stage, Kano’s journey from rapping in his mother’s house to his current recognition as one of England’s musical pioneers is given a new light in The Guardian-produced short — proving once more that grime culture runs much deeper than that of BBK and Skepta’s Shutdown. It’s a nostalgic nine minute short that sees KA reconnect with his roots, taking supporters on a trip back to his East London home.

In between shots of his old bedroom, barbershop and friends, he talks candidly about growing up in East Ham and the method behind what is likely to be his most introspective album yet.
